{Restaurant} Date Syrup – Raw and Natural Sweetener

Lately I try to reduce my sugar consumption (refined sugar) and I was looking for sugar alternatives, that I can prepare at home with local ingredients. Dates are sweet and big in Turkey, so I decided to prepare a raw and natural sweetener from them.

Date Syrup

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dates (200 grams)
  • 1½ cups water (375 mililiters)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional)

  1. Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth (if your blender is not powerful enough, soak the dates over night in water, in the fridge. And blend them the other morning). Don’t forget to take out the seed of dates.
  2. Keep the syrup in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 3 weeks.

I love the caramel like light sweet taste! You can add the syrup to porridge or smoothies, but also for almost all recipes as a substitute of sugar.
